Speaking to TNIE , eyewitnesses said that when the patient was being placed in the ambulance, the oxygen cylinder kept inside the vehicle suddenly caught fire and exploded. The blast was so intense that the roof of the ambulance blew off and landed on people standing nearby. Passersby rushed to the spot and pulled him out of the burning ambulance. However, he died of severe burn injuries. Two of his attendants also sustained serious burns in the incident. They were immediately admitted to the sub-divisional hospital for treatment. The explosion created panic among patients, doctors and attendants, many of whom reportedly rushed to safety following the blast. "It is suspected that a sudden leak from the oxygen cylinder triggered the fire," a police official said, PTI reports.
